Interview - Christopher Carfi, CEO, Cerado: May 10, 2006

In this edition of For Immediate Release podcast interviews, Shel enjoyed a 28-minute conversation with Christopher Carfi, CEO of Cerado and author of the Social Customer Manifesto blog, about the link between communications and customer relations, new approaches to customer relationship management, and Cerado's business social networking too, Haystack.

Chris says, "I've had the opportunity to work on a bunch of cool things over the years. These have included: heading up a killer team that developed information management and data visualization systems for the Indy Car circuit; developing advanced underwriting systems to help financial institutions better manage their financial risk; being one of the original members of the board of directors for RosettaNet, the premier standards body for process integration across the electronics industry. Currently, I'm a co-founder of Cerado, Inc. We work with companies to help them to understand what their customers are thinking (by doing crazy things like going out and having conversations with those customers). We also help our clients understand what their competitors are doing, so they can thwart them at every turn."

There's more to Chris's profile, but rather than list it all here, go take a look at what someone would see if they found Chris using Cerado's Haystack business social networking utility.

Interview - Tom Foremski, Silicon Valley Watcher: May 9, 2006

In this edition of For Immediate Release podcast interviews, Neville and Shel enjoyed a 28-minute conversation with Tom Foremski, editor of Silicon Valley Watcher, about online journalism, public relations, the relationships between the two, the future of the press release, and the impacts of change in these professions being brought about by social media.

Tom Foremski arrived in San Francisco in 1984, becoming one of the first European journalists to cover Silicon Valley. He quickly established an international news agency, West Coast News, which provided leading publications around the world, such as The Financial Times, with breaking news, features, and analysis. He also published The Street - A View from the Haight, a neighborhood newspaper focused on San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district.

In 1999 he joined the Financial Times' San Francisco bureau full time to help expand the newspaper's coverage of US technology markets and Silicon Valley. He left the Financial Times in 2004 and continues to write columns on Silicon Valley for the Financial Times, and on his personal site, SiliconValleyWatcher.com.

IABC ConferenceCast debuts

As reported earlier, Neville Hobson and Shel Holtz are co-hosting
and co-producing the official podcast of the 2006 IABC international
conference. The podcastâConferenceCast âdebuted today and is available for download, audio stream, and RSS subscription over at the conference blog, In Session.

The blog will launch
officially on Monday but is open now for the podcast (the podcast is
the only post there at this point). ConferenceCast #1 features
interviews with members of the IABC Gold Quill Blue Ribbon panel, which
convened over a Friday and Saturday in March to decide which entries
would receive honors. The Gold Quill Awards are presented at a gala
evening on Monday at the conference. Iâm actually pretty pleased with
the editing job, which was the most complex Iâve ever undertaken.

ConferenceCast will feature interviews with speakers, conference
planners, members of staff, members of the IABC executive board, and
individuals who plan on attending. Once the conference starts, weâll
conduct on-site interviews. We hope to podcast a few complete sessions,
as well, although thatâs up in the air at this point.

Grab a listen to ConferenceCast and let us know what you think by leaving a comment on the âIn Sessionâ? blog.

First FIR listener survey opens

We get a great kick out of producing For Immediate Release.
Twice a week talking about some of the things weâre passionate about in
communication, technology and business - how better can it get?

Many of you who listen to our twice-weekly podcast contribute to the
overall richness of the conversations and debates, and weâd like to
thank everyone who has been part of our show since we started in
January 2005, 15 months and 124 editions ago.

Whatâs next? Well, we have some great ideas to make it even better.
But nowâs the time to be a bit more scientific about where we currently
are with FIR, what people think about it, likes and dislikes,
suggestions, etc.

In other words, a listener survey!

Weâd like you to tell us your opinions. So weâve put together a
short survey which would take you about 15 minutes or less to complete.
Please help us develop FIR into something that we want to be of even
greater interest and value for all of us.

So please go to the survey
and complete it. The survey is open from today until midnight GMT on
April 30. Weâll be publishing the results here during May as well
talking about them as in an episode of FIR.

Thanks for your help and support.

In this edition of For Immediate Release book reviews, Neville and Shel discuss âNaked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers,â? the new book on blogging and businesses by Robert Scoble and Shel Israel, to be published in January 2006.

The Book:

âWith a foreword by Tom Peters, author of such business bibles as âIn Search of Excellence,â this book uses more than fifty case histories to explain why blogging is an efficient and infinitely more credible method of business communication. Business and marketing decision-makers will find themselves excited about the possibilities after just a few pages.â? (Promotional text.)

The Authors:

Robert ScobleRobert Scoble is a technical evangelist at Microsoft and maintains the popular blog Scobleizer. Besides blogging, Scoble is part of Microsoftâs Channel 9 videos team producing educational and evangelist mini-films targeted towards students and professional developers. He is Microsoftâs best-known blogger whose blog is read by millions of people annually and is the top-ranking business blog among Technoratiâs Top 100 blogs.

Shel IsraelShel Israel writes and speaks about blogging, communications and innovation. He also consults with startups as a senior strategy and communications advisor. He is editor-in-chief of Conferenza Premium Reports, the leading newsletter covering technology industry executive conferences. A self-proclaimed recovering publicist, Israel spent more than 20 years as a PR executive specializing in technology startups.
